AECO launches new Arctic guidelines animation video

At Albatros Expeditions, we are proud of our in-house expertise, which starts with the knowledge in the office and expands to the guides, agents and guest experts on our voyages... but we know the more expertise the better, and for this reason, we are proud members and grateful for the work of AECO.

The Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) is an international association for expedition cruise operators operating in the Arctic and others with interests in this industry. Founded in 2003, it has since become an important organization representing the concerns and views of Arctic expedition cruise operators. AECO is dedicated to managing responsible, environmentally friendly and safe tourism in the Arctic and strive to set the highest possible operating standards.

The association’s geographical range is considered to encompass the Arctic area north of 60 degrees north latitude. The core areas are Svalbard, Jan Mayen, Greenland, Arctic Canada, the Russian Arctic National Park and Iceland. (We're also members of its sister organization IAATO, which focuses on the Antarctic region, but today, it's all about AECO. Their work helps us organise voyages made with consciousness and care for the locations we visit...so only footprints are left behind.

To bring some inspiration to your homes, we thought you would enjoy this beautiful, informative video, which aims to motivate travelers to help clean Arctic beaches and reduce their plastic footprint. Being part of beach clean-ups is an eye-opening experience. Expedition cruise tourism is an ideal platform for raising knowledge and engagement about environmental issues, such as marine litter. This video was created both to raise awareness of the problem of marine litter and to educate travelers on what they can to do be part of the solution.
The video was made possible by funding from the Svalbard Environmental Protection Fund, the Norwegian Environment Agency and the Norwegian Retailers’ Environment Fund (Handelens Miljøfond). The animation was created by Raindog Studios.
