Tresco is a small, family-run island, about two and a half miles long and a mile wide, and one of the five inhabited islands of the Isles of Scilly—a stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In 1834, the Duchy of Cornwall leased the islands to Augustus Smith, a Hertfordshire squire, who became the Lord Proprietor. He established his home at Tresco Abbey and created a world-class garden that has become renowned for its sub-tropical flora and fauna

Tresco Abbey Garden is a spectacular sight, featuring plants from every Mediterranean climate zone and over 2,000 specimens from the southern hemisphere and tropics. Upon arrival, passengers will tender ashore and be greeted by a local gardener. A short walk leads to the gardens, but for those with walking difficulties, two small electric buses are available at the pier for transport to the garden entrance. Once inside, enjoy a leisurely stroll through a lush landscape filled with succulents, towering palms, and vibrant flame trees. Wander along paths crisscrossed with stunning King Protea flowers, the striking Lobster Claw, and bright displays of Echium, Furcraea, Strelitzia, and Pelargonium.

Beyond its botanical treasures, Tresco Abbey Garden offers encounters with red squirrels and golden pheasants, hidden sculptures in shady glades, and a fascinating collection of shipwreck figureheads in the Valhalla Figurehead Museum.
