Join this exciting tour exploring the volcanic delights of Heimaey, one of Iceland’s most interesting islands. This rugged island was formed by volcanic activity which continues to this day. The last major eruption of Eldfell Volcano was in 1973, when the lava from the volcano almost closed off the harbour – the life and soul of this small island town. Local residents fought back with little more than water pumps, saving their town’s livelihood. Today, this story, along with jaw-dropping displays of volcanic power are preserved the the town’s excellent volcano museum. As well as access to the museum, this tour also includes stops at the most exciting and interesting sites of the island, as well as a chance to see some of the island’s cutest and most famous residents – the thousands of puffins which call this island home.
