Albatros Expeditions announces 2nd new build vessel acquisition
PRESS RELEASE: Nordic Expedition Cruise operator on ambitious international growth path
April 30, 2019 – Copenhagen, Denmark. Albatros Expeditions is pleased to release the following statement:
Plans to add a second INFINITY class expedition cruise vessel to its fleet in 2022 are now confirmed by the Albatros group. The ship, named Ocean Albatros, will operate in both Antarctica and Arctic, and on cruises between these core expedition areas. The Ocean Albatros will supplement the Ocean Victory, which will be operated by Albatros Expeditions in Antarctica as from December 2020 and is chartered to Victory Cruise Lines for operations in Alaska for the summers.
The vessels Ocean Albatros and Ocean Victory are 104 meters long, and 18 meters wide, featuring 93 large cabins, of which 68 are with private observation decks and 9 with French balconies. The vessels are of the highest Ice Class 1A, Polar Code 6 and are being built with Safe Return to Port, Dynamic Positioning and Zero Speed Stabilizers, and also featuring the X-Bow® by Ulstein Design & Solutions. They are small enough to give an exclusive atmosphere and yet large enough to yield all expected services and facilities.
Albatros owner Soren Rasmussen stresses the benefits of the unique Zero Speed Stabilizers “These give a proven reduction of the roll of the ship of 80 to 85%, even if the ship is not moving. This offers more comfort to our guests, while at the same time making our zodiac operators easier, even in more challenging conditions”.
Albatros also announced the appointment of Hans Lagerweij as president of its international businesses. Lagerweij has extensive experience in the Expedition and Small Ship cruise industry, and in the past was responsible for managing Quark Expeditions and recently Victory Cruise Lines.
The CSR and Green Initiatives programs already implemented on Ocean Atlantic will also take place on Ocean Albatros and Ocean Victory, which also belong to the greenest cruise ships in the world. Rasmussen adds: “Its tier 3 compliant engines give up to 80% less emissions and a significant lower fuel consumption. Furthermore, there will be no single-use plastics onboard, and only bio-degradable and eco-friendly cleaning products and laundry chemicals will be used. We will only offer sustainable seafood, reduce the use of all chemicals and implement an onboard recycling program”. Additionally, we’ll continue our efforts to support local and global conservation / humanitarian projects in the areas we operate and promote the practice of safe and environmentally responsible private-sector travel to te Polar Regions.

About:
With over 30 years of operational expertise in the Nordic countries, Arctic and Antarctica, here at Albatros Expeditions, we pride ourselves on being specialists in what we do. We believe the primary focus of an expedition cruise is to experience the distinctive nature along the route, and to broaden one's horizons across borders and cultures. Our specialist knowledge of polar exploration extends from the furthest reaches in the Arctic territory's Greenland, Iceland and Svalbard; then crisscrosses the globe to Antarctica. Our small expedition ships have a distinct advantage over larger, traditional cruise ships -- they can access narrow inlets and sail close to shore, in-between icebergs and into remote waters, permitting us to disembark quickly via our fleet of Zodiac watercraft and access amazing sites with greater speed and efficiency.
